Wates Developments has appointed Matthew Tunley to the position of land director, based at its corporate headquarters in Surrey.

Matthew, who joined the business from CEG in October, is responsible for managing the land team and will focus on identifying and securing new land opportunities across the south of the UK including strategic land to bring forward through the planning system and consented land.

A qualified town planner, Matthew brings over 15 years’ experience in strategic land, where he has worked in both house building and land promotions companies, on both greenfield and brownfield sites.

Matthew Tunley said: “I am delighted to be joining Wates Developments at this time as the business is growing quite significantly. I was attracted to Wates because of the reputation that it has in the market place for being a respectable and trustworthy partner. I am particularly looking forward to exploring future opportunities that exist to increase our land portfolio and grow the business even further.”

Matthew will sit on the Wates Developments board, reporting into managing director Martin Leach.

Martin Leach said: “Matthew joins us at an exciting time. We have a great team in place and with the backing of the Wates board and family, we’re in a very strong position to have an impact on housing supply and support the government in achieving its housing strategy”.
