Kind and caring staff at property agents SDL Bigwood have distributed more than £20,000 to their two nominated charities.

Macmillan, who do so much for people affected by cancer, including their families, friends and colleagues, and Acorns Children’s Hospice, which provides care for children and young people who have life limiting or life threatening conditions and support for their families, each receive £10,238.50.

It represents money raised across the whole of last year from the likes of dress down days, cake sales, quizzes, coffee mornings and much more besides.

The total includes a company donation.

A further £28,296.28 was raised by staff members for various charities dear to their heart, of which £20,532.59 came as a result of Gurpreet Bassi and friends dashing around all 20 Premier League grounds in 24 hours in aid of Cancer Research.

Other beneficiaries included the Bobby Moore Fund, St Mary’s Hospice, Marie Curie, Children in Need, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, the Cleft Lip & Pallet Association, Sunfield Children’s Home, Blue Cross, the NSPCC and Cure Leukaemia.

SDL Bigwood head of marketing and PR, Sue Randell, said: “Charity and helping those less fortunate is really important to our staff.

“The example is set from the top and runs throughout the organisation. It is important that we do our bit.”

Amanda Smallman, corporate partnerships manager at Acorns Children’s Hospice, said: “This is a significant amount and on behalf of the children and their families who rely on Acorns, a massive thank you to everyone at SDL Bigwood who donated.

“It costs Acorns nearly £10 million every year to provide our services and we rely on donations for most of this amount, so we are hugely grateful for the support.”

Emily Morgan, area fundraising manager at Macmillan, said: “This donation from SDL Bigwood could support our Macmillan Grants to help people with cancer meet costs that can arise from the condition and its treatment. In Birmingham we supported over 900 people with grants last year, and we can’t continue to provide this important service without the brilliant fundraising from companies like SDL Bigwood. Thank you to everyone who helped raise such an amazing amount to support people affected by cancer.

“At Macmillan, we know how a cancer diagnosis can affect everything. So we’re here to support you and help you take back some control in your life. From help with money worries and advice about work, to someone who’ll listen if you just want to talk, we’re here.”
